In the words of a lighting industry colleague of mine, “LED’s today are like the wild, wild, West!” I couldn’t agree more. But exactly does he mean by that?Basically, what he means is, “you get what you pay for.”
As you’ve probably noticed, pricing of LED light bulbs, fixtures, and chips vary greatly, and the quality of the LED is in direct proportion to the price. If you pay a low price for it, you get low quality. If you’re willing to pay a higher price, you will probably get a higher quality. I say “probably”, because you still need to make sure that you choose a top-name manufacturer.In today’s market, Cree and Samsung are known as the best makers of LED’s.
To use a car analogy, if low-price meant high-quality, we’d all be driving Yugo’s. But it doesn’t, and you won’t find one Yugo on the roads today. Keep that in mind when you’re buying your next LED’s.
